Indonesia’s Amman Mineral Targets Ambitious Copper Output Recovery in 2024
In a striking display of resilience and strategic planning, PT Amman Mineral Internasional, one of Indonesia's premier copper miners, has announced a bold target for 2024. The company is aiming for a production of 833,000 dry metric tons (dmt) of copper concentrate, marking an approximate 54% increase from its 2023 output levels. This ambitious goal comes after a challenging year in which heavy rainfall severely impacted its production and sales, leading to a 32% decline in both areas.
The Batu Hijau mine, a cornerstone of Amman Mineral's operations, is set to play a pivotal role in achieving this significant production boost. The company credits the expected increase to the high-grade ore available from Phase 7 of the mine, signaling confidence in its resource base and operational capabilities.
Last year, the miner produced and sold considerably less than its usual output, with figures standing at 541,893 dmt and 548,313 dmt of copper concentrate, respectively. These numbers underscore the substantial impact that adverse weather conditions can have on mining operations, particularly in regions prone to heavy seasonal rains.
