Jindalee Produces Battery-Grade Lithium Carbonate from McDermitt Project

July 31, 2024

Jindalee Resources, now JLL, has announced a significant milestone by producing battery-grade lithium carbonate from its McDermitt project in Oregon. This development follows test work at Hazen Research Inc in collaboration with Fluor, the lead engineer for the ongoing pre-feasibility study (PFS).

McDermitt is the largest lithium deposit in the US, with a resource of 3 billion tonnes at 1,340 parts per million (ppm) lithium, equating to 21.5 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. This surpasses the nearby Thacker Pass project by Lithium Americas, which holds 19.1 million tonnes.

The processing flowsheet for McDermitt has been validated from ore beneficiation and leaching to purification and production of battery-grade lithium carbonate. These results are expected to support the outcomes of the pre-feasibility study due in Q4.

Astute Metals NL Reports Significant Lithium Discovery at Red Mountain

Astute Metals NL, formerly Astro Resources, reported a significant lithium discovery at its Red Mountain project in Nevada. The initial results from a 10-hole drilling campaign include notable findings such as 59.4 meters at 1,300 ppm Li from 73.2 meters and 15.2 meters at 810 ppm Li from 15.2 meters. This discovery confirms the potential of Red Mountain as a significant lithium project in North America. Further drilling is planned for the second half of the year.

Firebird Metals Advances Manganese Project in China

Manganese explorer Firebird Metals (FRB) is progressing its plans to build a battery-grade manganese operation by processing ore from the Oakover project in the Pilbara and converting it in China. FRB recently signed a farm-out agreement with Macro Metals (M4M) for the Wandanya, Disraeli, and Midgengadge tenements. M4M will invest $150,000 over 12 months and complete at least 10 RC drill holes on each tenement. This partnership allows FRB to focus on its Oakover Project and Chinese LMFP strategy.

Aruma Resources Sees High-Grade Copper at Fiery Creek

Aruma Resources (AAJ) has seen a surge in its shares following the discovery of high-grade copper at its Fiery Creek project in Queensland. Historical samples revealed grades up to 36% copper across multiple prospects. Fiery Creek is located in the Mt Isa copper belt, a region with high exploration potential. AAJ aims to capitalize on this underexplored area with promising historic results.

Greenvale Energy Prepares for Seismic Program in Amadeus Basin

Greenvale Energy (GRV) holds a 75% interest in an exploration permit in the Amadeus Basin, central Australia. The permit has an estimated resource of 440 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of total gas, including 26.4 Bcf each of helium and hydrogen. Helium and hydrogen production has been proven through exploration drilling, with preparations underway for a seismic program to guide drilling in 2025.

Battery Mineral Resources Ships Second Copper Concentrate to Anglo American

Battery Mineral Resources (BMR) has announced a second shipment of 751.65 dry metric tonnes (DMT) of copper concentrates to Anglo American's Chagres smelter in Catemu, Chile. This shipment marks another step towards positive cash flow and supports BMR's goal of becoming a mid-tier copper producer. The copper concentrates, produced from copper smelting by-products supplied by Anglo, contained 24.22 percent copper, totaling approximately 410,348 pounds of copper in concentrate. BMR aims to ramp up production to 2,800 DMT per month by year-end.
