Lithium Universe Accelerates Apollo Project Development

November 28, 2023

Lithium Universe is advancing towards a definitive feasibility study for its Apollo project in Canada, having expedited the engineering design of its Quebec lithium processing hub's (QLPH) stand-alone concentrator. The processing facility, with a planned capacity of 1-million-tonnes per year, is being fast-tracked by WA-based Primero.

Plant Design and Processing Strategy

Designed to handle an assumed feed grade of 1.1% lithium oxide, the plant is expected to produce approximately 140,000 tonnes annually of spodumene concentrate at a grade of 5.5% lithium oxide. The engineering study by Primero has introduced a four-stage crushing process for the ore, with an innovative approach to handle crusher fines and mica removal. The process includes a dedicated flotation unit for fines and a gravity-based separation technique using a reflux classifier.

Comparative Design and Winterization Features

According to Lithium Universe chairman Iggy Tan, the plant's design resembles Galaxy Lithium's Mt Cattlin operation, with additional features like a flotation unit for fines and adaptations for winter conditions. Tan praised Primero's rapid progress and the quality of work, highlighting the significant milestones achieved in a short time.

Moving Towards Definitive Feasibility Study

With the engineering study yielding a block flow diagram, process flow diagrams, a mass balance, and process design criteria, Lithium Universe is now preparing for the next phase. This phase involves finalizing equipment specifications and approaching suppliers for pricing, essential steps towards the procurement process and the upcoming Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS).

Strategic Positioning in Quebec’s Lithium Market

Lithium Universe is strategically positioning itself as a leader in lithium project development in Québec. The Apollo project, covering a vast 240-square-kilometre area, is a greenfield project with significant exploration potential. The company is currently conducting exploration programs on the ground, focusing on pegmatite-hosted outcrops identified by Quebec's Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests.

Regional Significance and Neighboring Developments

The Apollo project is located on a trend adjacent to properties owned by Patriot Battery Metals and Winsome Resources, both of which have reported significant lithium oxide deposits and drilling results. These regional developments underscore the potential of Lithium Universe's Apollo project in contributing to the burgeoning lithium market, essential for the electric vehicle and renewable energy sectors.
