Midnight Sun Mining Confirms Significant Copper Mineralization at Mitu Trend in Zambia

July 26, 2023

Vancouver-based Midnight Sun Mining Corp. (TSXV: MMA, OTCQB: MDNGF) has released the remaining drill results from holes MTDD047 and MTDD048, along with a summary of results from the 2022 drilling campaign on the Mitu trend, part of the company's Solwezi project in Zambia.

Following the conclusion of drilling in 2022, initial laboratory results were received. However, to ensure accuracy, the company decided to re-assay select drill core. SGS Inspection Services Kalulushi has now completed all assays, confirming the initial results and revealing significant mineralization.

Copper mineralization at Mitu is associated with cobalt, nickel, and anomalous gold. The style and grade of this mineralization are comparable to those found at First Quantum's Sentinel mine, located approximately 120 km west of Midnight Sun's Solwezi project.

Highlights from the 2022 Mitu drilling include:

  • Drill hole MTDD044: 11.50 meters at 1.41% copper, 0.11% cobalt, and 0.03% nickel, including 4.15 meters at 1.29% copper, 0.13% cobalt, and 0.09% nickel, and 5.80 meters at 1.86% copper, 0.07% cobalt, and 0.02% nickel.
  • MTDD045: 7.30 meters at 0.58% copper, 0.02% cobalt, and 0.02% nickel.
  • MTDD047: 26.10 meters at 0.32% copper, 0.07% cobalt, and 0.05% nickel.
  • MTDD048: 22.25 meters at 0.39% copper, 0.01% cobalt, and 0.01% nickel.

Al Fabbro, President, and CEO of Midnight Sun Mining expressed satisfaction with the consistent results from Mitu, confirming the initial drilling. He emphasized the importance of developing a sound technical model and future plans for the Solwezi project.

The 2022 exploration program has proven the concept of the Mitu trend's mineralization. Additionally, the geological similarities between Mitu and First Quantum's Sentinel mine have provided exciting prospects for the company. Midnight Sun believes there may be multiple large geological systems within its vast 506-square-kilometer property, strengthening their belief in the potential for multiple generational copper deposits.

The 2022 field season saw Midnight Sun complete 17 diamond drill holes totaling 3,559 meters on the Solwezi project. This included seven holes at the Mitu trend target area and ten holes at the Crunch zone target area. The company's property is situated in Zambia's copper belt, one of the world's largest copper-producing regions, and is surrounded by world-class producing copper mines.

Midnight Sun Mining remains focused on exploring its flagship Solwezi project, aiming to unlock the full potential of the highly prospective region and contribute to Zambia's prominent copper mining industry.
