Russia Boosts Aluminum Exports to China, Reaching $2.3 Billion in 2024

Russia significantly increased its aluminum exports to China during the first eight months of 2024, reaching a record $2.3 billion, according to an analysis of Chinese customs data by RIA Novosti. This represents a 1.4-fold increase compared to the same period last year and a dramatic rise from $60.6 million in 2019.

While aluminum sales surged, Russia's copper exports to China remained steady at $1.7 billion. However, nickel shipments from Russia to China saw a decline, falling to $518 million from $709 million in 2023.

Interestingly, Russia reduced its iron and steel exports to China by one-third to $286.7 million but increased exports of products made from these metals by 1.8 times, totaling $274 million.

Overall, metal exports from Russia to China grew by 9%, totaling $5.1 billion in the first eight months of 2024, compared to $4.7 billion during the same period last year.
