Sigma Lithium Completes 22,000 Tonnes Lithium Concentrate Shipment with Glencore Prepayment

February 6, 2024

Sigma Lithium has successfully shipped 22,000 tonnes of lithium concentrate from the Port of Vitoria, marking the company's sixth shipment of its kind. Glencore AG has made an advance payment covering 50% of the shipment's value, based on a premium pricing agreement. This pricing is calculated at a provisional rate of 7.5% for lithium hydroxide according to the London Metal Exchange (LME) averages across China, Japan, and South Korea. The shipment is part of Sigma Lithium's ongoing commercial and marketing partnership with Glencore, which focuses on establishing a sustainable lithium supply chain for the electric vehicle (EV) industry.

Keith Prentice, Co-General Manager of Sigma Lithium, highlighted the company's rapid achievement of 270,000 tonnes in annualized nameplate capacity at its Greentech Plant, emphasizing the production consistency that aligns with major industry standards. Catarina Noci, Commercial Director, noted Sigma Lithium's entry into the competitive global lithium market and its commercial success, attributed to the high purity and coarseness of its lithium concentrate.

Sigma Lithium has been recognized for its Quintuple Zero Green Lithium, touted as the most sustainable lithium variant globally at COP28. This achievement underscores the company's commitment to carbon-neutral, socially, and environmentally responsible lithium production.

Operating from its Grota do Cirilo Project in Brazil, Sigma Lithium is set to produce 270,000 tonnes of its Quintuple Zero Green Lithium annually during the project's first phase, equivalent to 36,700 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) annually. With potential future expansions in Phases 2 and 3, based on ongoing feasibility studies, the project's production could increase to 766,000 tonnes annually, or 104,200 LCE annually. Sigma Lithium's Greentech lithium plant, integral to the project, operates on 100% renewable energy and utilizes 100% recycled water and dry-stacked tailings to minimize environmental impact.
