Ampco Metal Acquires Schmelzmetall Group to Expand Aerospace and Defense Offerings

Swiss copper alloy producer Ampco Metal has acquired the Schmelzmetall Group, a move aimed at enhancing its position within the industry and expanding its product offerings to the aerospace, defense, and other advanced technology sectors. According to a press release from Ampco Metal, the integration of Schmelzmetall's sales department is expected to be finalized by the end of the year.

The acquisition allows Ampco Metal to broaden its range of specialized copper alloys, including those used in additive manufacturing. With Schmelzmetall's expertise, the company will now offer innovative copper alloy solutions such as beryllium-containing powders, known for their application in complex engineering tasks requiring high chemical resistance and minimal porosity. These attributes are particularly valuable in aerospace and defense, where materials must meet stringent performance standards.

Ampco Metal, headquartered in Marly, Switzerland, is a producer of metal products including copper alloys, welding wire, aluminum bronze, and fasteners. The company also offers precision machining, welding, and technical consulting, primarily serving sectors such as steel production, oil and gas, plastics processing, and mechanical engineering.

Schmelzmetall, also based in Switzerland, specializes in the production of high-vacuum copper alloys used to manufacture semi-finished and finished parts for the aerospace and defense industries.
