Encounter Resources Initiates Drilling at Carrara Copper-Zinc Project in Australia’s Northern Territory
Project Overview
- Encounter Resources has commenced diamond drilling at the Carrara copper-zinc project (Carrara) in the Northern Territory (NT) of Australia.
- The project is a collaboration between Encounter and South32, under a Farm-in Agreement.
- The strategic location of Carrara is emphasized by its proximity to the Carrara sub-basin, which houses the renowned Century Zinc Mine on its eastern border.
Drilling Details
- The drilling scheme consists of three diamond drill holes, summing up to approximately 3,000m.
- Seismic reprocessing and gravity surveys have played pivotal roles in determining these drill locations.
Statement from Encounter Resources
Will Robinson, Managing Director of Encounter Resources, highlighted the immense potential of the Greater McArthur Superbasin in the NT. He sees it as a significant global avenue for unearthing substantial sediment-hosted copper and zinc deposits beneath shallow cover.
Robinson further underscored the presence of the Century Zinc Mine on the eastern margin of the Carrara sub-basin. The notable stratigraphic correlation across the basin, evident in seismic data, didn't escape his mention. He recalled the validation of copper and zinc mineralization at Carrara through the NDI Carrara-1 drill hole completed in 2020.
In conclusion, Robinson informed that South32 has kick-started a three-hole diamond drill program. This drilling endeavor is projected to span until November 2023.
