Fives Acquires Neatec Technologies to Enhance Environmental Efficiency of Aluminium Production

October 10, 2024

Fives has announced the acquisition of all technologies developed by Neatec, including pot alumina distribution and heat exchangers, which significantly reduce the environmental impact of primary aluminium production. These technologies complement the solutions offered by Fives Solios in the reduction sector.

With more than 70 years of experience in capturing and treating industrial emissions, Fives Solios is well-positioned to drive environmentally friendly aluminium production. The integration of Neatec's technologies strengthens Fives Group's commitment to fostering a more sustainable and efficient industry.

Neatec, founded in 2013 by Geir Wedde and Raymond Johansen, both former directors of Alstom Norway, brings extensive expertise in gas and fume treatment to Fives. Neatec's technologies include systems for alumina distribution on pots, which are crucial for efficient and high-quality aluminium production, and heat exchangers for Gas Treatment Centers and Fume Treatment Centers. Additionally, Neatec's patented Turbo Bed reactors enhance the adsorption process, ensuring high efficiency and durability in gas treatment.

The acquisition will enable Fives to consolidate its technological leadership and provide aluminium producers with cutting-edge solutions to improve energy efficiency and lower emissions. Sebastien Gauguier, CEO of Fives Aluminium Division, emphasized, "With the combination of Neatec's cutting-edge technologies and Fives Solios' state-of-the-art solutions for gas and fume treatment, we are ready to support aluminium producers in improving their environmental efficiency."

This acquisition will also allow Fives' Aluminium division to expand its local services to Norway, effectively serving customers already using Neatec's technologies. The acquired heat exchanger technology also has potential applications in other sectors, such as lime, steel, and cement, demonstrating the versatility of Fives' solutions.
