Emirates Global Aluminium and Nadeera Introduce Recycling Initiative Near Jebel Ali Plant

January 18, 2024

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), an industrial company in the United Arab Emirates, has partnered with social enterprise Nadeera to introduce a new recycling solution in communities close to its Jebel Ali plant.

Yalla Return, developed by Nadeera, is a platform designed to enhance recycling efforts among consumers. It utilizes technology as a tool for community engagement, encouraging and rewarding recycling activities through a mobile application connected to technologically advanced waste collection bins. The program is set to reach approximately 4,000 households near the Jebel Ali site.

Recycling aluminum requires 95% less energy than producing new metal and significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. EGA recently commenced building the UAE's largest aluminum recycling plant, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainable practices.

EGA has been instrumental in forming an Aluminium Recycling Coalition, collaborating with can manufacturers, beverage producers, and waste management companies to boost the recycling rate of aluminum cans in the UAE. Despite annual consumption of 660 million beverage cans in the country, only about a third are currently recycled.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, stressed the importance of raising recycling awareness, especially in communities near EGA’s facilities. He expressed satisfaction with the partnership with Nadeera, which aligns with EGA's commitment to environmental responsibility.
