Innovative Welding Technology Developed for Dissimilar Metals at Russian University
Radmir Rzaev, a senior lecturer at the Department of Materials Technology and Industrial Engineering of V.N. Tatishchev Astrakhan State University, has pioneered a groundbreaking welding technology that enables the joining of dissimilar metals and materials. This new method, which utilizes friction welding with stirring, is poised to enhance the characteristics of welds and significantly reduce the production costs of bimetallic plates.
The innovative approach allows for the effective combination of different metal pairings such as aluminum with steel alloys, and copper with aluminum, as well as the potential for joining metals with non-metals. Rzaev's project has garnered grant support from the Russian Science Foundation and has already demonstrated promising results, particularly in joining aluminum and copper alloys.
The technology is anticipated to be highly beneficial across several critical industries including petrochemicals, gas production, energy, and shipbuilding. These sectors often require materials that can withstand harsh conditions such as high temperatures, pressure, and corrosive environments, making the ability to efficiently combine dissimilar materials increasingly important.
