February 20, 2024

During a recent working visit to the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko, alongside regional head Mikhail Kotyukov, toured the Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Smelter (KrAZ), owned by Rusal Krasnoyarsk. The visit highlighted substantial advancements made at the facility over the past three years to enhance its environmental performance.

Evgeny Kuryanov, Managing Director at KrAZ, detailed the smelter's proactive measures in exceeding its environmental commitments. Notably, the smelter plans to inaugurate a new electrostatic precipitator in its anode mass production ahead of schedule, moving the launch from December to July. Additionally, the facility has implemented an online video monitoring system utilizing artificial intelligence across ten buildings, with plans to expand this technology further.

Significant upgrades to the smelter's gas cleaning units have also been implemented, with 20 out of 23 units now featuring corrugated sleeves for improved filtration. Preparations are underway for constructing a new, more environmentally friendly production facility at KrAZ, utilizing RUSAL's proprietary RA-550 aluminium production technology. This innovation, initiated by Rusal founder Oleg Deripaska, promises enhanced eco-friendliness.

Deputy Prime Minister Abramchenko commended Rusal's commitment to environmental modernization, noting the company's pledge to reduce emissions in Krasnoyarsk by over 30%. Rosprirodnadzor, the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, has already observed a 12% decrease in emissions from the smelter. Abramchenko's visit also included a tour of RUSAL's new medical center at the KrAZ site, equipped to provide quality healthcare to both employees and local residents.
