Nyobolt Unveils Five-Minute Charging Battery Technology

British startup Nyobolt has announced a breakthrough in battery technology, revealing that their new batteries can be charged in just five minutes. This development, reported by CNN, is made possible through the incorporation of niobium in the creation of a lithium-ion battery with a 35 kilowatt-hour capacity. During tests, the battery was charged from 10 to 80 percent in only 4.5 minutes.

Nyobolt co-founder and CEO Sai Shivareddy highlighted the extensive research conducted in the UK and the US, leading to this scalable battery technology. Experts from the University of Cambridge, UK, collaborated on developing these batteries for electric vehicles.

Independent tests demonstrated that the new battery can endure over 4,000 rapid charge cycles while retaining 80 percent of its capacity, equivalent to a mileage of 965,000 kilometers.

William Kephart from P3 Group noted the challenge of scaling production for these batteries. He pointed out that the key element, niobium, is mined in volumes of 94.5 thousand tons annually, compared to 1.8 million tons of graphite.

Earlier, researchers at the University of Bath, UK, created a prototype device capable of generating energy from the earth, intended to power agricultural sensors.
