Thiess Secures AU$240 Million Nickel Mining Contract in Central Halmahera

Leading mining services provider Thiess has been awarded a substantial AU$240 million contract for nickel mining operations by PT Halmahera Sukses Mineral, marking its second successful venture into the Indonesian nickel market in 2023.

Over the course of this 3.5-year contract, Thiess will oversee the complete spectrum of mining operations, encompassing mine development, haul road construction, ore loading, and hauling. The mining site is strategically located in Central Halmahera, North Maluku, merely 6 km from another Thiess operation, which enhances its regional presence and operational efficiency.

Michael Wright, Thiess Executive Chair and CEO, expressed enthusiasm for the new contract award, emphasizing Thiess' proficiency and commendable track record in the Indonesian mining sector. He reiterated Thiess' commitment to delivering safe, sustainable, and innovative solutions to clients while contributing to the growth of Indonesia's nickel industry, a crucial metal for advancing the global energy transition.
