Hydro Boosts Aluminium Production and Recycling Capacity in Pennsylvania

Norwegian aluminium producer Norsk Hydro has completed a capacity expansion project at its Cressona smelter in Pennsylvania, USA, with an investment of approximately NOK 1 billion ($94 million). The expansion includes the installation of a new extrusion press with a force of 3,000 tonnes, enabling the production of aluminium profiles up to 12 inches (305 mm) in size. The plant's annual production capacity has also increased from 220,000 to 270,000 tonnes.

The Cressona facility is now Norsk Hydro's largest producer of recycled aluminium, with its capacity to process aluminium scrap increasing from 34,000 to 64,000 tonnes per year. The plant, which operates 11 presses, produces a wide range of aluminium profiles used across various industries.
