Norsk Titanium Secures Continued US Department of Defense Funding for Nickel Superalloy Component Development

Norsk Titanium has secured ongoing funding from the US Department of Defense (DoD) to enhance its production capabilities for nickel superalloy components using its proprietary Rapid Plasma Deposition (RPD) technology. This funding aims to refine the manufacturing process for these components, which are widely used in the defense and oil and gas sectors for their high strength and resistance to corrosion.

The funding will support Norsk Titanium’s efforts to further develop RPD technology, which recently confirmed compliance with material specifications and industry standards through rigorous statistical material analysis. This validation highlights the potential of RPD to produce nickel superalloy components for broader commercial applications, demonstrating its ability to meet stringent quality and performance requirements.

“This achievement demonstrates the ability of Norsk Titanium’s RPD wire-based production process to manufacture components with complex geometries from a wide range of metals while maintaining material integrity,” the company stated.

The goal of this development effort with the US DoD is to produce large components that have traditionally been manufactured using legacy forging and casting methods. By leveraging RPD technology, Norsk Titanium aims to deliver more efficient and flexible manufacturing solutions for critical applications in defense and other industries.
