October 9, 2024

US aluminium products producer Novelis, a subsidiary of India's Hindalco Industries (Aditya Birla Group), has commissioned Italian equipment supplier Danieli to build a flat-rolled sheet production facility at its Bay Minette plant, currently under construction in Alabama. The facility will have an annual capacity of 1 million tonnes, focusing on aluminium scrap recycling and aluminium alloy sheet production.

The Bay Minette plant will produce aluminium products for various applications, including the automotive sector, aluminium cans, and other uses. The new facility will feature a hot rolling mill with one roughing and four finishing stands, a continuous coating line, and a high-speed trimming line. Danieli will equip the plant with advanced automation technology aimed at enhancing product quality.

According to Danieli, the project will establish a new global standard for the aluminium sheet industry. The equipment is expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2026.
