Novelis Backs Dual 80-MW Solar Projects in Alabama
Renewable Partnerships Bolster Clean Energy Initiatives
Alabama Solar Expansion:
U.S. aluminium company Novelis will endorse the development of two 80-MW solar power facilities in Alabama. This move stems from an alliance with a regional branch of energy provider Southern Company.
Novelis committed to Alabama Power's Renewable Subscription Programme. This commitment aims to procure adequate renewable electricity to cater to half the energy needs of its new recycling and rolling facility located in Bay Minette.
Collaborative Carbon Reduction:
Apart from focusing on solar energy, Novelis and Southern Company are set to collaboratively investigate other initiatives targeting the reduction of Novelis' Scope 1 carbon emissions. Their explorations include hydrogen fuels, carbon capture, energy storage, and the electrification of thermal processes.
Suzanne Lindsay-Walker, the Vice President of Sustainability at Novelis, expressed the company's dedication to its carbon reduction objectives. "Through these renewable ventures and potential carbon-reducing technologies, we aim for a 30% emission reduction by 2026 and hope to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, if not earlier."
Novelis' Continued Green Efforts:
Earlier in the year, Novelis announced the commencement of its inaugural onsite solar park construction at a production location in Pieve Emanuele, Italy.
